A night of light and colour
Tens of thousands of people flocked to Elche this weekend to witness the spectacular fireworks display that took place on the Nit de l'Alba. The famous pyrotechnical display was, as ever, stunning but not without incident. 26 people were injured, two seriously.
For the most part though, the night passed well and the crowds screamed with delight as bursts of colour, flame and light tore their way through the Elche sky in honour of the Virgen del Asunción
Mucian friendly
FC Torrevieja 0 Ciudad Murcia 2
Only a gap of three days between pre season games gave Torrevieja’s latest signings another chance to impress as Torrevieja played host to a strong looking Cuidad Murcia side. The home side juggled their starting line up with Corcoles and Pando starting up front, Dominguez in midfield and Nando in central defence. The first shot of the game came from the visitors after five minutes but it flew well . . .

Sunshine FM report
Hello everybody. You know that saying? "You've got to be in it to win it!" Well here on the Costa Blanca's number one favourite radio station we've taken delivery of the new Sunshine Fm car stickers. They're kindly sponsored by The British Auto Centre in Almoradí and in the coming weeks if we see your car with a sticker then you could be a big winner in one of our forthcoming competitions. They are available from the station, The Calypso bar in Cabo Roig, Fitzpatricks at Via Park 1 and of course The British Auto Centre, good luck!
Ashley & Palmer (Saturdays & Sundays 9am-12pm) continue to break new ground in radio. Topics ranging from rainfall (1 day) in parts of the Andes to the niceness (or not) of certain stars they have met, along with some slightly different choices of music (Rolf Harris!). Gary Francis' "Chill-Out Zone" (Monday - Friday except Thursday 8pm-11pm) continues with smooth latin grooves and his fine mix of tunes. The Duke rocks on (Saturday & Sunday 7-10pm) in no uncertain manner and Simon Morton (Monday-Friday 8am-12pm) is as cheerful as ever on the best breakfast show on the Costa Blanca.
You can tell that Autumn is nearly upon us when the TV Listings for Saturday nights include the X-Factor. It's achieved some of the highest audience ratings in recent years and it's back again this Saturday. The early audition stages have usually been the most entertaining shows with the public displaying their talents (or otherwise) in front of Simon Cowell, Sharon Osbourne and Louis Walsh. Last years winner was Shayne Ward and the critics are now consigning him to the scrap heap after his last single peaked at 14 in the singles charts. Are we now looking at a show where the judges & presenters are more famous than the stars that they have supposedly created and more to the point can you remember the names of any X-Factor winners or runners-up? Neither can I!
Quite a week here at Sunshine Fm. Last Thursday we all woke to the news about the security alerts at UK airports. Normally we're in the business of bringing you the best music & local news across the Costa Blanca, but at times like this everything changes. Flight delays or even worse cancellations affect our listeners & everyone else of course, so that means we have to provide as much accurate information as possible. By 1.00pm the News Editor of the Coastrider, Aoife, was live on-air with up to the minute news regarding our local airports and how to contact Alicante & Murcia and individual airlines along with some sound travel advice. Listeners were calling in to give and ask for news and Sophie in the Sunshine Fm office said "this must be like working in the Sky newsroom!" By the end of a long and very tiring day, Sophie said "I'm not sure I want to work in the Sky news room!" So thank you Sunshine listeners, Aoife, Mark and The Coastrider team.....& Sophie!
Please see the full Sunshine Fm schedule on page 12 of the paper this week.
More next week...take care!
